Children's Theatre Camp 2008
The
Hanover Arts & Activities Center will once again be sponsoring a Theatre
Camp for children in the summer of 2008. Lorie Foley will be returning
to direct The Wizard of Oz, a musical theatre production. One play will be
presented in three performances (August 15, 16, and 17, 2008), combining the
efforts of children from two age groups. Dates/times/details are

Rising 3rd - rising 9th graders: (Camp dates are July 14 - Aug. 14, 2008,
Monday -Thursday 3-5 p.m.) Cost - $110.00
Rising 1st and rising 2nd graders: (Camp dates are Aug. 4 - Aug. 14,
2008, Monday -Thursday 3-5 p.m.) Cost - $50.00
Audition dates are July 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. and July 9, 2008 at 3:00
p.m. at Hanover Arts & Activities Center

July 4th
Celebration
Come celebrate July 4th in Ashland at
Hanover Arts and Activities Center (500 South Center Street, Ashland)! If
you have any questions about activities, please call 804-798-2728.
 | Used Book Sale - The
Friends of the Ashland Library's Used Book Sale begins at 9:00 AM inside at
the Hanover Arts and Activities Center (500 S. Center Street, Ashland,
VA 23005).
There are no other July 4th activities besides the Used Book Sale until the
parade begins at 11:00 a.m.

 | Parade - If you would like to
be a participant in the July 4th parade, the parade line-up begins at 10:00 AM at the
corner of Railroad Avenue and Henry Clay Road.
Our non-motorized
parade begins at 11:00 AM
and continues down the road bordering the railroad tracks, arriving at the Hanover Arts and
Activities Center at ~11:30 AM. If you would like to participate in the parade by
joining an existing brigade or if you would like to form your own
brigade in the parade, please contact Carolyn Peart at 804-798-9131.
If you would like to enjoy watching the parade passing by, you can line
the railroad tracks on Railroad Avenue/S. Center Street between Henry Clay Road and Cox Lane.

 | Apple Pie Contest
- Pies must be homemade with filling being primarily apple.
Additions such as nuts, spices, raising, etc. are allowed. Pies
must be submitted to the Hanover Arts and Activities Center between 9:00
AM and 10:00 AM, accompanied by an apple pie registration form.

here. A panel
of judges will judge the pies, and the winning pies will be auctioned
off, with remaining pies sold by the slice. All proceeds will
benefit the nonprofit Hanover Arts and Activities Center.

 | Music, food, fun
and games - After the parade is over, you
will hear the
Hanover Concert Band's patriotic concert at noon and other wonderful music,
followed by our Apple Pie contest and auction at 12:30. Results of the
Patriotic Art show will also be announced at that time. There will
be old-fashioned lawn games such as watermelon seed spitting;
a patriotic art show; food and carriage rides (fee); and crafts.

 | What to bring
- Bring a blanket and/or
lawn chair. You can also pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawn
or you can purchase food from several local vendors. |
 | The Patriotic Art Show
is a great way to
show pride for your country.
All artwork must be on paper
(minimum paper size 8 1/2 by 11 inches; maximum paper size is standard posterboard)
- feel free to use any medium (pencil, pastel, crayon, paint, etc). Please put your name, age and phone number on the back of your
artwork. Turn it in by July 2nd to the Hanover Arts and Activities Center or
turn it in at the Ashland Library in the special Patriotic Art Show box at the Ashland Library.
All artwork will be put on display during our festivities on July 4th at the
Hanover Arts and Activities Center. Winners
will be announced at the 4th of July Celebration after the parade. You do
not need to be present to win. Art will be available for pick up the week of
July 7-11 at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center. Some ideas for your artwork are American symbols, heroes
and red white and blue as your inspiration. Questions about the Patriotic

Pre-K is 5 years and below.
Primary is grades K-2.
Elementary is grades 2-5.
Intermediate is grades 6-8.
Senior is grades 9-12 and above.
 | All activities will end by
approximately 2:00 PM. There are no fireworks at the Hanover Arts
and Activities Center. |

Ashland 2008!
Concerts are on
Sundays at 7:00 PM on the front lawn of the Hanover Arts and Activities
Center.
General Admission: $5.00;
Bluemont Friends and Seniors: $4.00;
Kids under 12 years: $2.00
All you need to
bring is a lawn chair (or a blanket) and your enthusiasm for GREAT MUSIC!
As always, no alcoholic beverages, smoking or pets.
